Welcome, Volunteers! Thank you for visiting our web page. This is where you will find everything related to volunteering at St. Gabriel Classical Academy, including volunteer certification requirements, volunteer service hour requirements, volunteer opportunities, how to record your volunteer hours, and more!
At St. Gabriel Classical Academy, we believe that the education of our children is a partnership with our families. By sharing our time and talents with the school, we are working together toward the common goal of providing our children with a vibrant, safe, and Christ-centered educational experience. Parent volunteering also helps us foster fellowship and build community for our children, parents, teachers and support staff. Parents are the primary role models and educators for our children and we encourage parents to volunteer regularly to support our mission and school.
Every family with a student enrolled at St. Gabriel Classical Academy for the 2024-2025 school year is expected to complete a minimum of 25 volunteer hours by the end of the school year. Volunteer hours count if the activity directly benefits St. Gabriel Classical Academy. All volunteers must be 18 years or older and must complete the VIRTUS Registration and Safe Environment Training, in order to volunteer in the classroom or with student related activities. We encourage all parents to do so.
All volunteer hours must also be recorded in your Family Portal account.
If the minimum 25 volunteer hours are completed, the $300 Family Service Investment Fee will be credited towards your student's next year tuition.
All volunteer hours need to be recorded in your FACTS Family Portal.

In accordance with the policy of the Diocese of Colorado Springs, all volunteers who have contact with any student or class MUST:
Step 1. Complete the Diocesan Online Volunteer Application through VIRTUS, which will facilitate a background check on the applicant. Our school will send an invoice to cover the cost of the background check ($18-$36 range), which you can pay by check to our school office.
Step 2. Complete online Protecting God's Children Online Awareness Session 3.0 training through VIRTUS.
Step 3. Volunteer to your heart's content! We appreciate the hours put in by our volunteers and will communicate through email about upcoming volunteer opportunities throughout the school year.
Please contact admin assistant Hailey Boland at [email protected] if you are interested in starting the VIRTUS process.
The initial Safe Environment training with VIRTUS is an online class called Protecting God’s Children Online Awareness Session 3.0 This class is good for 1 year from the date it is taken. Every year after this initial training, volunteers are notified via email from VIRTUS of an assigned brief “update training” on the topic of keeping children safe. The yearly update training must be completed in order to continue volunteering around children. Every 3 years, volunteers will need to take a Recertification training called Keeping the Promise Alive 3.0. Again, VIRTUS will keep track of assigning volunteers to the appropriate training.
Safe Environment Training is open to all, whether you intend to work with minors or not, and we encourage you to attend. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the school. For more information, you visit https://www.diocs.org/Departments/Child-and-Youth-Protection
1. Background checks are valid for five years.
2. Complete Safe Environment Update Training through VIRTUS, as needed. VIRTUS will email all existing volunteers when training is due.
