Laura Rago was previously a Communications Manager with the nonprofit Fostering Hope whose mission is to provide stability, connections, and enrichment to foster children in El Paso County.
Prior to her employment at Fostering Hope, she spent five years serving on the local board.
Laura has devoted her entire career to serving her community. Laura was an Assistant Deputy District Attorney and then the Chief Deputy County Attorney for El Paso County. In her role as Chief, Laura, and her team of attorneys and paralegals represented the Department of Human Services in cases where children were abused and neglected. She continuously taught attorneys how to become effective advocates and present evidence to the court so that each child's best interest would prevail. Laura retired from El Paso County in 2021 after serving 24 years as a public servant.
In addition to her career as an advocate, Laura works in the childcare center at St. Gabriel’s
Catholic Church, has assisted with Children’s Liturgy of the Word, been an Extraordinary
Minister of Holy Communion, and participates regularly in preparing linens for Mass.
Laura began her undergraduate career at Oregon State University as an elementary education major. She graduated, with honors, in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in Psychology. Laura then pursued a doctorate in law from the University of Oregon, which was granted in 1996. Laura will be pursuing her alternative licensure through ICLE beginning in July of this year and looks forward to continuing her advocacy for children in the classroom at St. Gabriel Classical Academy.
